8 Reasons To Visit Windsor In Autumn
Windsor is a beautiful destination all year round. Traditionally, most people flock to the Royal town during the Summer months, hoping to enjoy the gorgeous riverside location in the sunshine. Summer isn’t the only good time to head to Royal Windsor, and today we are sharing our top 8 reasons to book an Autumn staycation to our beautiful town.
1. Avoid The Crowds
Windsor is a very popular destination among tourists and we can’t blame so many people for wanting to experience this stunning destination. The Summer months are always the busiest and many of the local attractions are filled with crowds and queues. When you visit in Autumn, you can enjoy a quieter version of Windsor and truly experience everything this town has to offer.
2. Take In The Autumn Scenes
From September to November, Windsor takes on a whole new look which is not one to be missed. As the leaves fall from the trees, the town is swept up in a beautiful rustic look. The Long Walk in Windsor Great Park is one of the best sights in Autumn, as the iconic trees turn a stunning golden and red.
3. Get Cosy Indoors
In Summer in Windsor you will see everyone enjoying the weather out in beer gardens and on terraces, but in Autumn, Windsor is all about cosy pubs and gathering around the fireplace. The town is packed full of quintessentially British pubs which are perfect for a pint, and for a bite to eat, you can dine in The Brasserie at Sir Christopher Wren and enjoy the beautiful Autumnal views over the river without worrying about the cold.
4. Explore The Semi-State Rooms
In Autumn and Winter, Windsor Castle opens the Semi-State Rooms to the public. These spectacular private apartments can only be visited during certain times of year, and they are certainly worth the trip. This year, they are open between September 2021 and March 2022 and have been added to the usual visitor route of the Castle.
5. Visit Ascot Beer Festival
There are many local breweries around Windsor and Berkshire, and traditionally Autumn is when they begin their brewing again following the warm Summer. They use the newly-harvested hops and barley to produce their much-loved drinks in the Autumn. Ascot Beer Festival is the perfect place to enjoy some of these local ales, ciders and beers. The event takes place at Ascot Racecourse on 1st and 2nd October 2021.
6. See The Sights In Style
Windsor carriage rides are a popular way to see the town at any time of year, but our favourite is during the Autumn. Ascot Carriages offer horse-drawn carriage rides round Savill Gardens, which is filled with beautiful cherry and maple trees that turn into a stunning array of Autumn colours this season.
7. Marvel At The Fireworks
Bonfire night is a true spectacle around Royal Windsor, with many firework displays lighting up the Berkshire skies. Plan your visit over the 5th November and take your pick of the various displays in the town. LEGOLAND, Ascot Racecourse and Windsor Racecourse are all hosting fireworks displays this year.
