A Romantic Winter Break In Windsor
Winter can be a very bleak time of year but as the nights draw in and the temperatures drop, it is the perfect time to getaway for a romantic weekend. Windsor is a dreamy destination for a romantic winter break, with the sparkling Thames waters, quaint local shops and historic Windsor Castle which has been home to many Royal Weddings. With so much to see and do on a romantic winter break in Windsor, we’re sharing our favourite activities and must-see sights this season:
Visit Windsor Castle
A romantic winter break in Windsor is not complete without a trip to the Castle. During the winter months, the Semi-State rooms are open to the public at no extra charge. These impressive areas are richly decorated, spectacular private apartments that the Queen often uses to host her guests. If you are visiting over Christmas time, the State Apartments are lavishly decorated for the festive season. You can experience the beautiful setting with twinkling lights and glittering Christmas trees at special Christmas events and behind-the-rope evening tours.
Explore Windsor Great Park
Covering 4,800 acres, Windsor Great Park is the perfect place for a stroll on a romantic winter break. Pick up a footpath map of the park from the Royal Windsor Information Centre and see what wonders you and your love can find in this expansive park. For some real romance, book a carriage ride around Windsor Great Park with Ascot Carriages. Running on selected dates throughout Windsor, carriage rides start from outside The Savill Building and will take you on a full tour of the enchanting area.
Relax On The River Thames
Treat your loved one to a day out they will never forget and book a boat tour down the Thames. Wrap up warm for this romantic winter break activity and enjoy the beautiful sites of historic Windsor from the water. French Brothers Boats offer a reduced service during winter but their tours are still running and offer spectacular views of the castle. As the river is usually much quieter during the winter months, it is the perfect time of year to explore everything there is to offer along the river’s edge.
Head Out To The Races
A day at the races is an ideal date for you and your other half during a romantic winter break. Ascot Racecourse continue their events all through December, January and February. There is a Christmas Race Day taking place on 20th December, as well as the Betfair Ascot Chase Raceday on 15th February making for the perfect Valentine’s date idea.
Dine On The Water’s Edge
