Madama Butterfly at the Hexagon Theatre
The heat-breaking tale of love, loyalty and honour is told in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. When her American husband Pinkerton returns home, Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly) is left to raise her young child on her own while expectantly waiting for her husband to return. After three long years, Cio-Cio-San is reunited with her husband only to find that he has taken an American wife. Unable to live with the dishonour and loss, Madama Butterfly secures the future of her child and then takes her own life.
Ellen Kent, the award winning producer, brings her internationally acclaimed opera to The Hexagon Theatre in Reading on 12th October. Well known classics such as the Love Duet by Delibes will be performed by the Chisinau National Philharmonic & Opera Orchestra and also feature international Korean soprano, Elena Dee. This promises to be a truly spectacular performance accompanied by authentic Japanese wedding kimonos and ornate Japanese garden backdrops.
