The Windsor half marathon will take place on September 25th 2016 at 10am. The race will be held at Windsor Great Park which is known for its Long Walk starting at the gates of Windsor Castle, built in 1688. The route itself is wonderfully scenic as you make your way through what was once a Norman hunting forest.
The marathon, now in its 5th successful year starts and finishes at the foot of Windsor Castle which has been a royal home for over 900 years. With 13 miles of stunning scenery and traffic free roads to look forward to, there isn’t much to complain about. Having said that, if this is your first marathon, the two laps course stretching up to 11.5 miles is quite challenging with plenty of hills. The runners list is now full but there are many ways to participate. Why not volunteer to help run the marathon? These range from volunteers positioned at key points on the course to direct people, to those handing out water to runners.
Here is the list of charities that people are running for this year. If you are attending the marathon to as a spectator, you can donate on the day as well.
- CLIC Sargent
- Cancer Research UK
- Help for Heroes
- Alzheimer’s Society
- Cardiac Risk in the Young
- Lung Cancer Foundation
- Daisy’s Dream
- MS Therapy Centre Berkshire
- Prince Phillip Trust (marathon’s founding charity)
