Explore Windsor On Foot This Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is on the horizon which means a day out with your favourite woman in your life is soon approaching. Whether you want to treat your partner, Mum, Aunty or Grandmother, Windsor is a great day out to explore the great attractions it has to offer. When visiting Windsor, there is no need to drive as everything you need for a fun filled day out is at your fingertips. If you are heading to Royal Windsor this Mother’s Day, then keep reading as we’ve planned the perfect day out on foot.

  1. The official residence of the Queen: Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world and has been lived in by the royals for more than 1,000 years. It’s located in the centre of Windsor, just outside Windsor and Eton Central station. If the Royal Standard flag is flying above the castle, the Queen is home. However if you see the union flag hoisted, she is elsewhere. Filled with historic artifacts, St George’s Chapel is well worth taking a look around, and entry is included in your Windsor Castle ticket. The chapel has been in the limelight in the recent years as it’s hosted the Royal Wedding of Meghan and Harry, as well as the wedding of Prince Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.

  1. Walking tour of Windsor

Walk through the historic town with all the information you need. There are plenty of walking tours to choose from which will guide you through England’s most charming and history-saturated corners. If you are looking for something a bit different, Windsor Guided Tours do an atmospheric night walk around the town and neighbouring village of Eton.

  1. Eton College

Certainly one of the oldest schools in the world and probably the most famous, Eton College was founded in 1440. The school has taught Princes William and Harry, former Prime Minister, David Cameron and actors Tom Hiddleston and Eddie Redmayne. On Mother’s Day, their Natural History Museum is open to the public from 2.30pm until 5pm. It is Berkshire’s only dedicated natural history museum which house over 15,000 specimens, donated from the 19th century onwards.

  1. Sunday Lunch by the Thames

Watching the tranquil riverside is one of the great pleasures Windsor has to offer. You can lookout for the swans gliding past or see the numerous rowers on the water.
